New Entrepreneur Work Visa to Attract High Quality Business in New Zeland

The Government hopes a new business visa will encourage migrants to set up high-quality businesses and create more jobs.
The new entrepreneur work visa, launched today, replaces the long-term business visa, Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse says.

The visa operates under a points-based system that will result in higher quality, more productive businesses.
Mr Woodhouse hopes it will help New Zealand attract talented, well-connected people to invest in and grow businesses.

The new visa offers extra points for expanding businesses outside the Auckland region, which remains the primary destination for new migrants.

"The inclusion of regional points is designed to encourage new potential investors to settle and grow new businesses across the country, and to share the benefit of the extra jobs these businesses create," Mr Woodhouse said.

Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) Visa Allows Filipinos to Study and Work in NZ for 1 year

Filipinos and New Zealanders between 18 and 30 can now go to New Zealand and the Philippines and stay for a year through a Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) visa that allows them to work and stay for holiday and leisure, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Monday.
Starting Feb. 5, Filipinos and New Zealanders can apply for the special visa, which allows both citizens to train or study for a maximum period of three months, or work for one year with a limit of three months per employer. Visa holders will have to leave the host country after 12 months and only 100 visas per year per country will be issued to successful applicants, DFA said.

The arrangement on the special visa was signed between Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert Del Rosario and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully and witnessed by President Benigno S. Aquino III and Prime Minister John Key in Wellington last October 23.

Implementation of the WHS is expected to foster closer understanding between citizens of both nations through tourism, cultural and educational exchanges and short-term employment.

Interested applicants from the Philippines may contact the Embassy of New Zealand in Makati (http://www.nzembassy.com/philippines) while those from New Zealand can get in touch with the Embassy of the Philippines in Wellington (http://www.philembassy.org.nz/) for the requirements and relevant details of the WHS arrangement.

New Zealand Plans Simplification of Visa Application Process

Shifting immigration policies speak volumes about a country's desire to embrace change for its economic growth. New Zealand is the latest country to join the bandwagon.
The plan has been published in the form of its Vision for 2015 document. New Zealand's immigration minister, Nathan Guy, welcomed the blueprint and voiced that "Immigration New Zealand has put a lot of hard work into winning back the confidence and trust of the public and the Government." He expressed that the plan was an important step towards building on these achievements.

Additionally, he said that to benefit New Zealand visa applicants and staff at the visa offices, the immigration department has greatly reduced visa decision-making times. Some 500,000 visa decisions are made every year by the department, according to Mr Guy. Part of the Vision for 2015, Global Visas report is the simplification of the application process. An example of how the systems will be improved is the rolling out of Immigration Global Management System, which will allow more applications to be made online.

These changes in immigration policy aim at benefiting not only outsider applicants but also the country. Guy explained that, "Immigration makes a major contribution to New Zealand's economy. New migrants add an estimated $1.9 billion to our GDP every year, international students contribute $2.3 billion, and inbound tourists around $9 billion."
